How to install Dropbox on Pear OS 8

Dropbox is my favorite online data storage and file sharing. I can store and access my files from anywhere. Here I want to show you how to install Dropbox on Pear OS 8. When Dropbox application is installed on Pear OS 8, we can easily drop files to a special Dropbox folder on Pear OS and then we can access the files from anywhere via internet. 

In order to install Dropbox on Pear OS 8, please follow these procedures:

1. Install Dropbox.

Open Terminal and type

sudo apt-get install dropbox

2. After installation, run Dropbox from Launchpad and you will be asked to download Dropbox daemon. Press OK to start download

Wait until downloading process is finished. But, in my case, this process is stuck when the download is finished. To solve this, we can continue install Dropbox manually. Open Terminal and type this command

cd ~
wget -c https://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86-2.4.0.tar.gz
tar -xzvf dropbox-lnx.x86-2.4.0.tar.gz
cd .dropbox-dist
sudo chmod +x dropboxd

3. Now you can open Dropbox by clicking the Dropbox icon on Launchpad. Log in or register Dropbox to start using it. 

How to install Frostwire on Pear OS 8

Frostwire is a popular BitTorrent client and cloud client service. Frostwire can be installed on most Linux distribution including Pear OS 8 very easy. This tutorial is going to show you how to install Frostwire on Pear OS 8. The installer is about 6.5 megabytes. I like Frostwire because it has many nice features, stunning user interface and easy to use. Its a must have application for Pear OS 8 users. 

Open Terminal and type these commands:

wget http://dl.frostwire.com/frostwire/5.6.6/frostwire-5.6.6.all.deb
sudo dpkg -i frostwire-5.6.6.all.deb

Once finished, Frostwire icon should be listed on Launchpad. 

Install Shutter on Pear OS 8

Shutter is a rich features screenshot grabber for Linux. Shutter has more features than default gnome screenshot tool. It has a built in image editor which we can edit the screenshot, add text, object etc easily. Shutter supports various ways to take screenshot such as, window under cursor, desktop screen, manual selection, tooltip, menu and many more.

This tutorial will show you how to install Shutter on Pear OS 8. To install Shutter, open Terminal and paste this command

sudo apt-get install shutter

Once finished, Shutter icon will appear on Launchpad. 

Install SMPlayer on Pear OS 8

By default, Pear OS 8 is equipped with VLC Media Player that is modified into "Theater" application. In case you need another video player, SMPlayer is also a good one. SMPlayer can be installed on Pear OS 8 easily. 

SMPlayer provide a simple way to play local media or even video streaming from the website (url). We can also add subtitle to the movie we watch, etc. SMPlayer is just a simple media player for Linux. It supports various video formats. 

Install SMPLayer on Pear OS 8

Open Terminal and type this command

sudo apt-get install smplayer
