There are many free download manager for Linux especially for Pear OS 8. On this post, I will try to give a personal review to some download manager application which are available through Pear OS software manager.
1. uGet Download Manager
This uGet download manager is my favorite one. It has a simple user interface, easy to use and very stable. The "Add" button will automatically read the link we copied from the clipboard. uGet support resume as well. We can also create manual category for the files we've downloaded.
sudo apt-get install uget
2. Steadyflow download manager
Steadyflow is a handy download manager. It comes with a very simple interface there is no such feature to organize the files based on category like uGet.
Steadyflow download manager is not stable. At least when I try to pause the download process, the program stop working and need to close. Steadyflow simple but unstable. To install, simply use this command
sudo apt-get install steadyflow
3. FatRat download manager
FatRat is a Qt-based download and upload manager for Linux. FatRat is more advanced download manager which has more features compared to those programs above. We can set the download and upload speed, upload to various online service such as dropbox, support Torrent files and many more. If you want more features, FatRat is your solution. Its also very stable. To install, use this command below
sudo apt-get install fatrat
Conclusion:
FatRat has the most complete features, it supports Torrent and can upload to Dropbox and some other online storage services. uGet and Steady download manager has the standard feature of a download manager. So, on my own opinion, FatRat is a good choice.
